Meet Remy Turi
Solicitor, Anthony Harper
What did you study at university?
I studied a Bachelor of Laws.
What kind of work have you been involved with at Anthony Harper?
I’m a Solicitor in the litigation team and have been involved in a lot of varied work including construction and property disputes, debt recovery and family law.
The team at AH really encourages you and allows you to get involved with all aspects of the litigation process, which means I was able to gain experience with, to list a few, drafting various pleadings, letters and settlement agreements, injunctions, going to Court, appearing in an Arbitration, conducting client meetings and interviews, you name it.
What career steps have you taken to get to this point?
After graduating from university and while doing my profs, I applied for a litigation support assistant position at Anthony Harper. After about a year of this, I’d completed my profs and was offered a solicitor position in the litigation team.
What do you enjoy most about working at Anthony Harper?
The people. To me, enjoying working with your colleagues is a crucial aspect of professional fulfilment.
What would your advice to students be who are wishing to apply to Anthony Harper?
This may sound cliché; but be yourself and don’t be afraid to give it a go!
Meet Helena Goldsmith
Law Clerk, Anthony Harper
What did you study at university?
I completed a conjoint Arts / LLB (hons) degree with a double major in English and Art History.
What kind of work have you been involved with at Anthony Harper?
I have been fortunate enough to have had exposure to a wide variety of work across teams within the firm. I completed rotations in the Litigation, Corporate Advisory, Retirement Villages and Intellectual Property teams, allowing me to appreciate how dynamic corporate law can be. While working in these teams, I have had a hands-on experience attending client meetings, engaging in discoveries, filing trade marks, conducting legal research and drafting legal documents such as memorandums of advice, written submissions, contracts, privacy policies – the list goes on! The diversity in the work I have been involved in has been invaluable for gaining a greater understanding of what type of law I want to pursue going forward.
Did anything surprise you since starting in law and being at Anthony Harper?
Although university provided the foundation for my legal knowledge, I was struck by the extent of how different studying law is from legal practice. At first, it felt like I was starting from scratch as I had to learn and develop entirely new skills. I am grateful that Anthony Harper provides a supportive and constructive environment where I have been able to foster my skills in legal practice.
What sets Anthony Harper apart from other Law firms?
The advantage of being a mid-size firm is that although I receive a diverse range of work from notable clients, the firm is small enough that I am able to work closely with my supervising partner, receiving meaningful mentorship directly from a leader in the industry.
What do you enjoy most about working at Anthony Harper?
The best part about working at Anthony Harper is that the firm prioritises the wellbeing of its employees, which is refreshing in an industry notorious for being stressful. I have always felt that the firm prioritises its people and encourages employees to lead balanced lifestyles. This encouragement is evidenced by social events, wellbeing initiatives, flexible working arrangements and an annual wellbeing allowance designed to be put towards equipment or experiences that boost your mental, social, or physical hauora.
What would your advice to students be who are wishing to apply to Anthony Harper?
While grades are an indicator of work ethic, being a well-rounded and positive individual with an open mindset is just as valuable. Showing that you are genuinely interested in the work, eager to give whatever is given to you a go and work well within a team will help you stand out.
